Homeschool Co-op Class to Online PE

online PE, sports class, soccer

In our homeschool co-op, SEEK, I am teaching an Upper Elementary PE class which is now an online PE class. “Getting to know Sports” introduces upper elementary children to some of the more well known team sports. Social distancing creates an interesting challenge to teach team sports.

In an attempt to help my class learn about the different sports, even though we’re not together, I made a couple of videos today.  The videos are too large to email so putting them on my new website, under the exercise heading, serves the purpose well!  Bonus: More people besides my class can take advantage of quick exercise videos. I will continue to make more as our social distancing remains in effect, so stay tuned for more exercise videos.

Our co-op meets once a week for 14 weeks. I was doing 2 weeks per sport to fit the time frame that we had. Now, I can do a little teaching every couple of days which allows for more teaching for more skills. The drawback is we won’t be able to have team games, so I have to implement those when we get back together. Hopefully I’ll see some GREAT skills at that time, as everyone will have had time to get outside in the sun and practice from their online PE class!

I know practicing individually is not the same as practicing with a team, there are many team components that need to happen, as well. We will address some of those, too. But starting with the basics is always the best place to start!

We have already done football and basketball. We have also learned that it is important to warm-up our muscles and different ways to warm. Don’t stretch cold muscles and don’t sit down after exercising hard, you need to slow your activity down, not stop. Walk around to cool your body down.

Today we are going to start with soccer, so let’s get kicking.

Videos

Here are the videos for week 1. I will keep adding here, as I continue. I will probably more blog posts as I get closer to finishing some tasks at the house that need to get done.

Soccer Intro Video

Here is the link to Soccer Video #2 Quick Feet

I switched the order for Videos 3 and 4 because after I did them I felt I should have done trapping first, that’s why they are in this order. Soccer Video #4 Trapping inside of foot, instep, thigh and chest

Soccer Video #3 Trap and Pass, 2 or 3 touch

This is an exercise for three people! Bring out your brothers, sisters, parents. We’re still isolating as a family. Soccer Video #5 Three people – turn or pass

Dribbling is an integral part of soccer, so here is the Intro to Dribbling Video.

I hope you enjoy! Let me know what you think!
